PHYSICAL PROGRESS

Industrial Sector

1. Targeted Technical Services: Boiler/ Furnace Tune-Up and Steam System Surveys in the industrial sectors are being conducted by the selected consultants throughout Pakistan. Following is the progress/ achievements to date:

2. Green Energy Audit/Detailed Energy Survey in industrial sector in Pakistan
   
   
   • Application for pre-qualification of consultants invited through press.
     
     
   • Nine firms applied for pre-qualification, six firms were pre-qualified through an evaluation committee using prevalent evaluation criteria
     
     
   • Expression of interest from the industrial units interested in getting done the DES/GEA was sought through press advertisement. Following six suitable industrial units keeping in view their production / conservation capability, management commitment and geographical locations were selected:-
     
     
     • Haroon Textile Mills Gujranwala.
     • Kohat Textile Mills, Kohat.
     • Shah Taj Textile Mills ,chunian.
     • Frontier Foundry, Peshawar.
     • Pak Steel, Islamabad.
     • Layyah Sugar Mills, Layyah.
       
       
   • Detailed Energy audits at the following plants have been completed:-

     • Pak Steel Islamabad
     • Frontier Foundry, Peshawar
     • Layyah Sugar Mills, Layyah
     • Haroon Textile Mills Gujranwala.
       
       
   • Detailed Energy audits at the following plant have been conducted and final reports are under review:
     
     
     • Shah Taj Textile mills, Choonia
       
       
   • Second phase of this activity has been initiated wherein detailed energy audit in the following five industries are being conducted:-
     
     
     • Sadhuja Textile Mills (Naushero Feroze ,Sindh)
     • Attock Refinery, (offsite and utilities operation only) Rawalpindi
     • Packages Limited (Lahore)
     • Haderi Beverages ( Islamabad)
     • Park Davis (Karachi)
       
       
3. Revision/Updating of Training Manuals on Energy efficiency in steam distribution systems and improving steam boiler operating efficiency ( 2 number) and conduct of training workshops in major cities of Pakistan.
   
   
   • The manuals have been printed.
   • The process of disbursing the training manuals is underway.
     
     
     
4. Awareness Campaign through Print Media
   
   
• Launched awareness campaign in the print media to solicit interest from industry and create awareness in general public and Industrial sector to conserve energy.
  
  
  
5. Development of Databases
   
   
• Three databases have been developed including “Boiler/ Furnace Tune-up” and “Steam System Survey” Programs and Project ACE financial system MIS.
• Development of twelve databases in respect of industrial sector of Pakistan is in progress.
  
  
  
6. Energy Conservation Demonstration Projects
   
   
• Pre-qualification of consultants and expression of interest from industrialist sought through press advertisements.
• Technical/financial proposals invited from the consultants for implementation of Demonstration Projects at the following industrial units :
  
  
  • Sitara Chemical Industries – Faisalabad.
  • Asphalt Mixing Plant ,CDA Islamabad.
  • Haroon Textile Industries, Gujranwala.
  • Attock Refinery Ltd, Rawalpindi.
  • Kings Food Ltd Karachi.
    
    
• The proposals were non-responsive and the activity has been re-initiated.
• The activity was re-advertised

7. Review and updation of Building energy codes in Pakistan
   
   
• The Consultant M/s NESPAK has submitted the detailed work plan and methodology to ENERCON after incorporating ENERCON’s suggestions.
• The work plan approved by ENERCON and the updation/ revision of BEC under process by the consultant.
  
  
  
8. Conduct of Building Energy audits
   
   
• Following five buildings were short listed for the purpose:-
  
  
  • ENERCON Building, G-5/2,Islamabad.
  • Hydro Carbon Development Institute of Pakistan, H-9/1,Islamabad.
  • U -Fone Building Gulberg –II Lahore.
  • Telephone House ,PTCL ,The Mall Peshawar Cantt.
  • R.C.O.D Complex, G-8/4,Islamabad.
    
    
• M/s Mascon Associates pvt ltd. selected to carry out BEA through competitive bidding process. Conduct of field work is in progress.
  
  
  
9. Revision/Updating of Training Manuals on Energy efficiency in Refrigeration and air-condition & Cogeneration (2 number) and conduct of training works shops in major cities of Pakistan
   
   
• Prepared Terms of reference and have advertised in press for solicitation of interest from prospective consultants.
• Selection of the prospective consultants completed. M/s Aftec has been declared successful and revision/ updating work is in progress.
